Feature Description
An open-source, web-friendly alternative to Adobe Scan / CamScanner. This application would allow users to digitize physical paper documents, receipts, whiteboards, and ID cards directly from a device camera or uploaded image, processing the result into a clean, flat, high-contrast digital document.
Target Proprietary Alternatives
- Adobe Scan
- CamScanner
- Microsoft Lens
Category
Office / Productivity
Key Features / Proposed Functionality
- Edge Detection & Auto-Cropping: Computer-vision based detection to automatically find the borders of a page and crop out background noise.
- Perspective Correction: Flattening skewed images shot from an angle so they look like they were flat-bed scanned.
- Visual Enhancement Filters: High-contrast, black-and-white, and magic color filters to erase ambient shadows and make text hyper-readable.
- OCR (Optical Character Recognition): On-device text recognition to make the generated PDFs searchable and allow text extraction.
- Multi-Page Export: Ability to stitch multiple scanned images together into a single, clean PDF or ZIP package.
Why this is a great fit for "Everything"
The Everything Project already has excellent standalone web tools for PDF and Whiteboard systems. Adding a specialized document scanning interface completes the workflow—allowing a user to photograph notes on a real whiteboard, scan them into a clean digital format, and immediately work with them inside the repository's existing suite without relying on proprietary mobile ecosystems.
