Vala bindings

Opensjehudaopened 10mo ago

It would be helpful to have support of Vala, which is currently realized only with GTK software.

As more software are written with Vala, especially those of mobile devices such as Mobian and postmarketOS, and since support of X.Org was removed from GTK;

Nuklear could be a solution to port Vala software, so these be available with desktop and mobile devices that have XLibre installed.

Vala was created to have a language to develop GNOME applications and to replace the need for C for this task. So my impression is, that the problem is rather located on the side of Vala. Maybe on the Vala side they could consider supporting more than GNOME and add Nuklear?

Nuklear offers C, so the Vala people could add support vor Nuklear, I guess. Especially, because Vala compiles to C, doing it this way around looks more convincing to me.

DISCLAIMER: no offense intended, I want to help but it really feels strange reading all of this

Seeing that you instantly opened another Issue for another language bindings without much context given (https://github.com/Immediate-Mode-UI/Nuklear/issues/885) makes me feel that you don't really know what you want. Also reading through other discussions like...

...gives me an impression that you might be mistaking Nuklear with a way bigger UI frameworks like: Qt, GTK, FLTK, wxWidgets, Motif, and so on.

Nuklear is nothing like this. It is very small and limited, and has no established OS abstraction. It was designed for integrations with 3D-capable renderers, mostly for creating debug menus and tooling for Video Games and similar. You can't really use it as UI toolkit of choice for Desktop/Mobile applications (for many many MANY reasons) and even if you still want to do this, you would have to pair it with some other library, like SDL for example.

When it comes to bindings, you would have a better luck asking for those in the contact channels related to your language of choice. There is a chance that those bindings already exist and we simply don't know about them. Bindings for such small libraries like Nuklear are rarely developed by the upstream project. Usually someone unrelated makes and maintains them.

So... What is going on here? I'm genuinely curious what are you trying to achieve with all those requests (here and in all other linked Issues). It looks like you're trying to solve someone's else big architectural problem. Without explaining it, I'm afraid, no one here will be able to help you.

I read your respond.

I appreciate the details.

I will summaries a short answer which concerns the prime reason.

The phrase "no publicity is bad publicity" suggests that it is essential to expose (i.e. "remind") to people, that they might want to consider Vala, Pascal, et cetera.

There actually be people who would want to do so, and they would not, because at the time which they visited Nuklear, they did not think of doing it.

So the title "COMPUTER LANGUAGE NAME Binding" should be a helpful reminder to them.

So, my reason, for posting these "issues", is merely for publicity to serve as a reminder.

Concerning to set of features.

Not everyone need the features of GTK or Qt, et cetera.

Some would desire at Nuklear for "smaller", so to speak, software.

I do not necessarily want GTK or QT.

Also, toolkits such as Nuklear encourage console software developers to create graphical interfaces; something that they would not otherwise do with GTK or Qt.

DISCLAIMER: no offense intended, it just really feels strange reading all of this

Finally.

I "take" no offences.

I am not fond of insinuations, nor gossip, neither rumors.

If you want to tell me anything, or criticize me; then, please, do so explicitly and, preferably, immediately.

Generally, I am not seeking to be a part of a kindergarten; and if I notice someone who attempt to annoy me, then I leave him with himself.

Thankfully, there are many good open source projects, such as Nuklear, so I am not exciteed by these unnecessary arguments of "how people should behave or be" which is not related to software.

So, please, be most convenient to be explicit, obvious and critique.

I advocate criticism.

Nevertheless, I well appreciate the disclaimer.

Thank you.

Alright, I answered on your other Discussions. I hope it will help.

Good to hear that. I never really intent to criticize people, but no matter how much I try, I always feel my comments are too direct ("blunt" might be the correct word), thus I wrote this disclaimer.

Thank you. That is very kind, nevertheless.

My issue, is that, people are influenced to tend to dirert arguments to unrelated concerns, while focusing on abstracted words (e.g. "modern") to do so; and then it is difficult to properly argue. It is as if everyone are foes instead of collaborators. Of course, I suppose that sabotagers (i.e. "moles") are involved at that.

Thank you for your references at the other duscussion.

Feel free to publish the Vala bindings in your own repository. Once it's up, you'll be able to link to it from https://github.com/Immediate-Mode-UI/Nuklear/wiki/Integrations

Actually, I'm going to keep this open for now in case others have interest.

I have resorted to a directory of TASKS/ with reStructuredText documents from which I intend to compile an Atom Feed.

https://git.xmpp-it.net/sch/Rivista/src/branch/main/TASKS

I am not fond of "issue tracker".

I figured that it would be useful to utilize someplace else to list potential computer languages to have Nuklear supported by, instead of utilizing this issue tracker.
