Here maybe it is necessary to call ensureCursorVisible() so that it sticks to the latest output.

3I am not sure here.
Current implementation does not scroll the window, only moves the cursor to the end to append incoming text.
If the user want to track the output, it has to be manually scrolled.
From a user's perspective, I may optionally want the output window to be scrolled to the bottom to present the latest output from the application.
This can be achieved by calling ensureCursorVisible() after appending new text.
But either behavior is okay I presume as different users have different needs. If there is a button to toggle auto scrolling, it would be great. Just a small UX feature for you to consider.
OK, understood now. I would say we should always scroll to bottom when the scrollbar was at the bottom before we inserted new text. this way the user can scroll up to read something and if they scroll down we'll automatically follow the output again - no checkboxes needed
patches welcome!
"maybe"? Have you tried it out - does it not work for you or does it and you are saying the above may fix the issue you have? can you please provide more information on what the issue is exactly and how to reproduce it?
