Breaking changes

The default -c setting now uses 256:1024:4096 KiB bounds for its 1 MiB average, instead of 128:1024:8192 KiB. This changes default chunk boundaries and compressed bytes. The seekable Zstandard archive format is unchanged.

If identical chunk boundaries do not matter, no command change is needed. To preserve the v0.10.1 behavior:

# v0.10.1: the old bounds were implicit
zstdseek -f input.dat -o input.dat.zst

# v0.10.2: specify the old bounds explicitly
zstdseek -c 128:1024:8192 -f input.dat -o input.dat.zst

All existing flag names remain supported, including numeric -q levels.

Highlights

• Accepts one positional input as an alternative to -f and rejects ambiguous combinations.
• Validates input, chunk, and worker options before opening output files, preventing invalid invocations from truncating output.
• Simplifies -t verification and reports seek-table finalization, encoder, and file close failures.
• Delegates automatic compression worker selection to the library while retaining -threads overrides.

Compatibility

Existing archives remain readable. Both average and min:avg:max forms of -c remain supported.
