Many QEMU installations come with iPXE installed by default. Adding a bootfile option to the embedded dhcp server can enable chaining of an iPXE script, which enabled booting of QEMU guests with zero local artifacts required outside of the qemu installation.
I'm not sure if this would be of interest to anyone else, but for me it enables some fun capabilities with ephemeral systems and diskless guests.
Example usage:
gvproxy -listen-qemu tcp://0.0.0.0:1234 -bootFileName http://boot.netboot.xyz/menu.ipxe
and
qemu-system-x86_64 -machine accel=kvm -netdev socket,id=vlan,connect=127.0.0.1:1234 -device virtio-net-pci,netdev=vlan,mac=5a:94:ef:e4:0c:ee -nographic

3Thanks for the patch, this is indeed a very specialized need, but it’s small enough that it’s fine to add. 2 comments, apart from this looks good to me! I’ve made the changes I suggested in https://github.com/cfergeau/gvisor-tap-vsock/commit/bootfile-dhcp-option
