53. This happens on EVERY browser on Windows 11 except Microsoft Edge, what a coincidence! EDIT: LibreWolf works even smoother than Microsoft Edge for PDF file reading.
That is factually not correct. Firefox 158.0 presents no such issue.
Helium 0.19.4.1 on Windows 11 26200.9711 presents issues of very laggy pdfs on my machine as well. Sample doc.
Well when I tried last time, PDF beside, Firefox was struggling with scrolling pages smoothly on webpages.
I am pretty sure this is just the behavior of the PDF rendering engine used for Chromium. I am on a Mac and PDFs scroll in Helium the same way. But I implore the developers, please do not change the engine! It is the only PDF engine I know of that interprets and displays text in PDFs with precision like Adobe Acrobat does, without being horrible bloated Adobe Acrobat. And Apple's PDF engine that is used in their pre-installed Preview app and another PDF reader I like called Skim is pretty abysmal at rendering text. It overly emboldens fonts when rendering them, which makes them easier to read on a computer screen and I think eases the graphical intensity of rendering them (hence making for smoother frame rates when scrolling), but completely ruins their kerning unless massively zoomed into and makes the app useless for previewing what a PDF will look like when printed with a precise, high-DPI printer.
I write many PDFs in LaTeX regularly and always use Helium to preview their appearance. It renders fonts such that their excellent design and kerning (if they are excellently designed and kerned) can be appreciated. I beg, do not change it!
I'd like actually to revise my last comment. I have just found that if you open the Print preview in the Helium PDF reader, the print preview renders fonts just as sharply but scrolls with normal FPS. I suppose then something could be done for the FPS of actual PDF reader without affecting its ability to render text.
