Is there an existing issue for this?
- Searched open and closed issues for the affected versions, full-host crashes/shutdowns, Apple TV streaming, RTX 5070 Ti, and the controller allocation message. No clear match was found. Nearby reports #5870 and #5765 concern Sunshine/stream disruption rather than the full-host failure reported here.
Is your issue described in the documentation?
Unknown. The issue template and reporting rules were reviewed; a full documentation review has not been performed.
Is your issue present in the latest beta/pre-release?
Unknown. No latest beta/pre-release retest has been performed, and no such test is claimed. The affected host has been restored to its previously working release to avoid deliberately reproducing another full-PC crash.
Describe the Bug
Sunshine 2026.914.233613 was associated with repeated full-PC crashes on a Windows 11 host with an RTX 5070 Ti while streaming to Moonlight on Apple TV. Desktop streaming initially worked; failures occurred during streaming, controller use and/or gameplay. Rolling back to 2026.516.143833 previously restored working streaming. The problematic newer version was accidentally installed again and has now been rolled back.
The installed-product registration and sunshine.exe ProductVersion/FileVersion were verified as 2026.914.233613 before recovery. After rollback, all three independently report 2026.516.143833, and the older Sunshine service starts successfully. The older MSI came from the official release and its SHA-256 matched GitHub's release asset digest. The previously successful streaming on the older version is the host owner's observation; the latest recovery only verified installation, retained configuration/pairing and startup. No fresh streaming/gameplay stability test was performed.
Historical sequence: connect Apple TV through Moonlight, stream the desktop, then use a controller and/or play a game. The host repeatedly crashed. This is a description of prior incidents, not a deterministic reproduction procedure or a newly performed test.
Expected Behavior
Streaming, controller input and gameplay should continue without crashing the Windows host.
Previously recorded timeline
September 27, 2026, America/Los_Angeles (UTC-07:00):
| Time | Previously recorded event |
|---|---|
| 20:25:33 | Apple TV connects. |
| 20:29:43 | Gamepad 0 will be Xbox 360 controller |
| 20:29:47 | Stream disconnects. |
| 20:30:25 | ControllerNumber already allocated [0] |
| Approximately 20:30-20:32 | Host fails. |
This timeline is supplied from the owner's previous recording, not newly collected full log output. Real-time GPU priority was already disabled for that session. Controller timing is a correlation, not proof of a ViGEmBus fault. NVIDIA/HAGS and ViGEmBus were troubleshooting hypotheses, not confirmed causes.
Additional Context
- Previous Windows records showed unexpected shutdown events without a corresponding new bugcheck dump. Those are prior observations, not a fresh event-log/dump audit.
- Several settings changed during earlier troubleshooting. This was not a controlled version-only comparison and does not establish a specific root cause.
- A separate later overnight shutdown has not been linked to Sunshine.
- The latest rollback retained existing pairing, credentials and application entries. No HAGS, NVIDIA driver/settings, ViGEmBus, firewall-rule or unrelated-software changes were requested during recovery.
- No game was launched, no stress test or crash reproduction was attempted, and no automatic reboot was performed during recovery.
Host Operating System
Windows
Operating System Version
Windows 11 Pro, x86_64. At recovery: 26H2, build 26300.9711 (Win32_OperatingSystem 10.0.26300). The exact Windows build during the September 27 incident is unknown.
Architecture
amd64/x86_64
Package
Windows AMD64 MSI. The accidental newer installation's cached source was a WinGet directory. Rollback used the official 2026.516.143833 Windows AMD64 MSI.
GPU Type
NVIDIA
GPU Model
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. An Intel Graphics adapter is also currently enumerated; its role, if any, is unknown.
GPU Driver/Mesa Version
At recovery: NVIDIA Windows driver 32.0.16.1742 (617.42). The driver version at the September 27 incident is unknown. The currently enumerated Intel Graphics driver is 32.0.101.9150.
Client and Controller
Moonlight on Apple TV. Apple TV model, tvOS version, Moonlight version, controller make/model/connection details and incident-time ViGEmBus version are unknown.
Capture Method
Unknown for the incident. Encoder/codec at the incident is also unknown.
Apps
Private apps.json is not attached. This report concerns full-host failure, not a confirmed application-entry/launch configuration defect.
Log output
The historical timeline above is the available incident evidence. Full September 27 Sunshine logs are not available in the currently inspected installation; the pre-rollback active log was empty and its rotated log contained only a short October 21 startup. The issue template requests full logs; this report explicitly does not claim to supply them or fabricate replacements.
No memory dumps, pairing records, certificates, credentials, private configuration or unsanitized logs are attached or uploaded.
Online logs
None.
