My valve index HMD w/ my rtx 3090 doesn't present as a non-desktop display. This is consistent across compositors (sway, KDE), but other compositors allow for disabling outputs such that they're still DRM-leaseable. Currently, this doesn't work in Niri.
I opened https://github.com/niri-wm/niri/pull/3738 a while ago as a fairly minimal solution to this (tag a display as drm-lease so that the non-desktop-prop code path is also triggerable via config, as a workaround for any HMDs that don't present properly due to whatever reason.
I'm opening this issue just to properly track the actual underlying issue / so that more information can be gathered. I initially assumed my NVIDIA gpu was at fault, but this also appears to happen with the Index HMD on AMD gpus as well. Obviously this is an upstream issue with the HMD's prop presentation, but I assume there's other such HMDs with this issue.
