[Feature Request]: Automated Task Completion & Cross-View Synchronization

OpenSarode007opened 9d ago

Description

I would like AFFiNE to support a more powerful task-management workflow where multiple views are different representations of the same underlying task records, with automatic synchronization between them.

Desired Workflow

  1. Create a task in a priority section/view such as P0, P1, P2, or P3.
  2. Each task should have:
    • Task name
    • Priority
    • Project
    • Creation date
    • Completion date
    • Completed/unchecked status
  3. When a task is unchecked, it should remain visible in its corresponding priority view.
  4. When the task is checked/completed, it should automatically disappear from the active priority view and appear in a Completed view.
  5. All views must reference the same task record. Editing or checking a task in one view should immediately update the same task everywhere.
  6. The completion date should be automatically recorded when a task is marked as completed.
  7. Incomplete tasks should automatically remain available on subsequent days without requiring the user to:
    • Change the task date
    • Duplicate the task
    • Move the task
    • Manually recreate the task
    • Maintain a carry-forward counter

Example

A task is created:

Task: Fix DPM production issue
Priority: P0
Status: Incomplete
Created: 21 Oct 2026
It appears in:
P0 View

When the user marks it complete:
Status: Completed
Completed: 21 Oct 2026

It should automatically:
- Disappear from the active P0 view
- Appear in the Completed view
- Remain as the same underlying task record
- Preserve its creation and completion history
Automatic Carry-Forward
If the task is not completed:
21 Oct
☐ Fix DPM production issue

The next day it should still be available:
22 Oct
☐ Fix DPM production issue

No manual date modification, duplication, migration, or carry-count update should be required.

The task should simply remain active until it is completed.
Desired Automation
Ideally, AFFiNE should support rules such as:
WHEN task is marked complete
    ↓
Set completion date = current date/time
    ↓
Remove from active priority views
    ↓
Show in Completed view

And:
WHEN task remains incomplete
    ↓
Keep task active
    ↓
Continue showing it on subsequent days

Expected Structure
The overall system would be:
                 MASTER TASK DATABASE
                         │
          ┌──────────────┼──────────────┐
          ↓ ↓ ↓
        P0 VIEW P1 VIEW P2 VIEW
          │ │ │
          └──────────────┼──────────────┘
                         ↓
                  COMPLETED VIEW

The key requirement is that these must be views of the same underlying task records, not independent copies of the database.

The goal is to make AFFiNE work as a low-maintenance daily task manager where the user's primary actions are simply:

Create task → Assign priority → Complete task

Everything else, including synchronization, completion history, and persistence of incomplete tasks, should happen automatically.

Use case

I use AFFiNE as a daily task-management workspace where I receive new requirements and tasks throughout the day and organize them according to priority.

A typical workflow is:

  1. I create a task and assign it a priority such as P0, P1, P2, or P3.
  2. I work on the task during the day.
  3. If I complete it, I check the task.
  4. If I don't complete it, I want the task to remain active and automatically carry forward to the next day.
  5. Completed tasks should automatically move to a Completed view while preserving their creation and completion dates.

The main problem with the current workflow is that maintaining this manually becomes very time-consuming. I may have many tasks and requirements arriving throughout the day, and a significant portion of them may remain incomplete.

I should not have to manually:

  • Copy unfinished tasks to another day
  • Change task dates every day
  • Move tasks between tables
  • Maintain a carry-forward count
  • Recreate the same task
  • Manually record the completion date

For example, if I create:

Fix DPM production issue — P0

on Monday and don't complete it, I want it to remain an active task on Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. until I mark it complete.

Once I mark it complete, it should automatically disappear from the active P0 view and appear in the Completed view with its completion date.

This would make AFFiNE much more suitable for users who manage a large number of continuously changing tasks and requirements while keeping the workflow extremely low-maintenance.

The ideal experience is simply:

Create task → Assign priority → Work → Check when completed

Everything else should be handled automatically by AFFiNE.
