Would suggest to use a large foot-operated trackball mouse along with the pedal - this would let you control the sound in up to 3 dimensions, almost like a violin bow or voice. (I'd make a formant filter, even with consonants - just to learn C).

17It would obviously require a compressor/sustainer - maybe this one taken out of the Chromium browser: https://github.com/velipso/sndfilter/blob/master/src%2Fcompressor.c
UPD: looks like it doesn't do upwards compression though - which can be fixed https://g.co/gemini/share/b562ad03deaa Actually since the bitrate doesn't matter with floating point numbers, downwards compression with makeup gain should be ok.
https://github.com/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/blob/master/libavfilter%2Faf_sidechaincompress.c ffmpeg has it (as well as other good things to pull apart)
https://github.com/freealise/audionoise/blob/main/sus.h ...Made an elementary sustainer with blending, dynamics compensation and noise threshold - to be continued.

A very stupid sustainer would probably look like: take the module of input samples, use the moving average in a loop to find volume, then multiply the samples by the ratio of the volume's latest peak to its current value.
