Stream line-oriented rg stdin and propagate downstream closure. Modes that need the whole input keep the existing buffered matcher; non-ASCII input retains the existing decoder contract.
Draft while #631 remains unmerged. This branch is rebased onto current main with the shared prerequisite fixes. Focused follow-up diff. The full GitHub diff includes the prerequisite; it should be rebased again once that prerequisite lands.
Validation: focused behavior tests, TypeScript, scoped Biome, knip and banned-pattern checks pass. No manual workflow rerun or review-bot request was made.
Activity
13Carried the shared streaming trust-scope fix from #453 (b70d7251) and the discovery fixture correction from #631/#639 (e1f440f2). No stdin matcher changes were needed. 608 rg/pipeline tests pass, with 82 existing skips.
Carried two verified dependency fixes: the initial one-file discovery batch from #631 (e8fa0fa7), and the restricted result-getter handling from #642 (6465788b). 79 focused stdin, discovery, and pipeline tests plus typecheck pass.
The renewed Unicode buffering comment on #639 describes an intentional limitation here: whole-input Latin-1 fallback means a later invalid byte can change how earlier non-ASCII bytes must be decoded. The existing mixed-encoding/BOM regressions cover this, so changing to eager UTF-8 emission would change behavior rather than simply remove buffering.
Rebased onto the updated #631 prerequisite and current main. Updated the streaming eligibility check for main’s maxCount: Infinity default; existing cancellation tests caught this integration mismatch. Stdin ownership, path diagnostics and explicit-file behavior from main are preserved. The combined #638/#639 validation passes 697 rg/pipeline checks (82 existing skips), including the temporary newline-review probes described on #639.
