Terminal tool call runs forever

Reproduction steps

Current vs. Expected behavior

Most of the time terminal tool runs without any timeout, which hangs the process forever. All other Ai coding has terminal tool call timeout built in to prevent bug like this

@erikdemarco I tested the built-in terminal tool on macOS 15.8.1 with Nightly 1.27.0, build 20261028.024048. An explicit timeout and the terminal’s Stop button both worked.

What I tested
  • /bin/sleep 60 with timeout_ms: 1500 returned early with a timeout result.
  • /bin/sleep 45 without a timeout was still running at 35 seconds and finished at 45 seconds.
  • Stop ended another /bin/sleep 60 before its deadline and stopped generation.

The timeout is optional, so a call without it can keep running. I haven’t reproduced your Linux case.

Can you share a failing command, the selected agent and model, and whether Stop ends the call? If the tool details show timeout_ms, can you include its value? Please redact credentials and private command arguments. That will help distinguish a missing default timeout from an explicit timeout or cancellation that fails.
