invalid escape sequence error when opening micro under root on Debian

Openalephalpha0opened 22d ago

Description

Whenever I go to open up Micro from the command line simply by typing micro, I get an escape sequence error but only when logged in as root

main line:26(column:33) near '\.': Invalid escape sequence

Press enter to continue

Unfortunately I don't have much more information right now than the error that it gives me immediately upon hitting Enter after typing in micro. Once I hit Enter to continue, it opens up the text editor and I can use it as normal. Let me know of any information, logs, or whatever I can gather to help pinpoint what's going on here

Environment

  • Version: 2.0.14
  • OS: Debian 13
  • Terminal: ssh in through Termux

Can you open micro as root as followed?

micro -config-dir /tmp

micro will then use a new and clean temporary folder for its configuration. Currently I assume that you load a configuration, which has "invalid" files.
